The Linguistic Computing Laboratory (LCL) is part of the Computer Science Department of the University of Roma "La Sapienza". The group works in the
areas of the semantic web (the web of next generation), computational linguistics, e-learning, and information retrieval.

The group uses and develops algorithms in the context of machine learning, pattern matching and recognition and natural language processing to solve problems
related to the construction, learning and population of ontologies, automatic document indexing and classification,
query expansion on document bases, question answering, etc.

We are organizing the English Coarse-grained All-Words task (with Ken Litkowski) and the English Lexical Substitution (with Diana McCarthy) at Semeval-2007.

We participate in international challenges, in the definition of experimental assets and benchmarks for the performance evaluation of large-scale algorithms and systems.

We are involved in national (LC3, Chat) and international projects (Interop NoE) and we actively foster a cycle of seminars on the Semantic Web.
